NOTE FROM PASTOR DENNIS GILL:

The Music Department Retreat at Crosswinds was a fun and refreshing time for all who attended. Our guest, Todd Braschler, did a superb job of giving us a fresh new perspective on WHY we do what we do each and every week as we minister to people through music.  I came away from this year's retreat more convinced than ever that this event has the potential of being one of the most valuable and eagerly anticipated activities of our entire year.  The location and facilities are gorgeous, the teaching was powerful and the fellowship was sweet. If you couldn't go this year, plan on prioritizing the retreat next year!
Todd's teaching centered around a well-known passage of scripture in Mark 2: 1-5 where Jesus was teaching in a crowded house. The story focuses on a crippled man who was let down through the roof to be placed at the feet of Jesus. Todd compared our ministry in music to those in this story who loved this lame man so much that they went to the trouble to remove part of the roof of the house just to get him at the feet of Jesus.
In Todd's own words, "Music and worship are created by God and are intended to bring people to the throne of God, the very feet of Jesus.  However, even though our motion and action seem to lead us into worship, we sometimes find ourselves having less than the desired impact in our services.  Regardless of the quality of music, the excellence of our preparation and the available gifts of our musicians, we sometimes fall short of the final and most powerful element of life-changing worship - the power of the Holy Spirit.  The anointing of God is the one element in worship we cannot do without. We may be able to survive with less than quality instruments, or slides rather than power point. We may experience a wonderful morning with a well-prepared worship team and our best soloist. However, the purest experience in worship occurs when God sees our passion, our heart, our intent and our motivation, and pours His anointing, His Spirit into everything we say and sing. When important elements in the preparation, attitude and leading of worship are truly aligned with the passion and heart of God, it seems the power and anointing of God is endless in a service.

Characteristics of a Tile- Mover:

I. Tile-Movers respond with the heart and passion of God to the needs of others. They are DISCERNING and GENEROUS.

2. Tile-Movers see serving and sacrificing for others as an element of their own personal growth. They are PASSIONATE LEARNERS.

3. Tile-Movers give up something they love for something they love more. They have PRIORITIZED DESIRES."

Our ministry is to place people at the feet of Jesus. Lord, may our hearts be aligned with Yours so that we allow You to accomplish what only You can do.

Dear Todd,
I’m writing thank you notes to many who helped with last week, and I didn’t want to miss thanking you for the way you enthusiastically let God use you to minister to us.   Your vulnerability in telling stories where you had blown it helped me see that yes, there is hope even if we haven’t been as effective as we should have been in certain areas.
Your examples of how you train your boys was great!  Your emphasis on vision was something I really needed.  Anyway, thanks Todd!  And I appreciated your letter and copy of the responses.  May God continue to be able to work in and through us all to be “tile-movers.”

In Christ,

The Call of a Tile-Mover is a unique seminar that opens the door for a deeper discussion about worship and music in the church. We have enough how-to conferences. This conference focuses more on who, what and why we are worshipping in the church.

I was full of expectation for myself and our people at Meadow Park Church when Todd came to lead us in this weekend of thinking and stretching in our ideas about what we are called to be and do, to lead others to Christ and the worship of Him. I and those who participated in the weekend experience were reminded and challenged to think of worship in different ways.

I appreciate the unique ministry that Todd brings to the church. His enthusiastic spirit and caring spirit shines through in his teaching and leading in worship. It was a great joy to have him lead our congregation through this weekend worship experience.

Description

Music and worship are definitely created by God and intended to bring people to the throne of God, the very feet of Jesus.  However, even though our motion and action seem to lead us into worship, we sometimes find ourselves having less than the desired impact in our churches.  Regardless of the quality of music, the excellence of preparation, and the available gifts of our musicians, we sometimes fall short of the final and most powerful element of life-changing worship - the power of the Holy Spirit.

What are the signs that perhaps all our preparation and hard work may miss the anointing and blessing of God as a worship ministry or in a worship service?

  1. Conflict resolution between worship team members is OPTIONAL.
  2. Members are RELATIVELY committed to rehearsals.
  3. Performance takes precedence over MESSAGE.
  4. Music is prepared and presented short of EXCELLENT.
  5. Directors are seen as teachers more than EQUIPPERS.
  6. Corporately supportive, but privately CRITICAL.
  7. CONDITIONAL offering of gifts and talents.
  8. Leading worship without personally WORSHIPING.
  9. Portraying a leader of worship without LEADERSHIP activity.
  10. Worship is seen as an activity over a RESPONSE.

Hello again, Todd

I can't tell you how "high" I felt after this past weekend!  My husband and I went to lunch afterward, and I said "I am so full right now".....Since we hadn't eaten, he questioned "of what?"   I had to laugh, then said. "I'm just so-o-o full of worship, I could explode!!"

You brought to us such a wonderful time, and you are a brilliantly anointed vocalist and leader. I found the weekend to be a very RICH experience.   I appreciate the application to our lives and homes, as well as in our worship settings.

God knew HIS AWESOME WORK could be completed through you and your ministry.  Thank you for your obedience to His call......

May God continue to grow us all in his mighty plan, on this incredible journey........Man do I love the adventure...........

Love through Christ,

Todd,

Again, wonderful having you at Bayside this weekend.  It was very enriching, thought provoking, and insightful.  I appreciate your heart for ministry, leadership development, visioning, and investing in our team.  This weekend was everything I had hoped for and more.  I am already hearing wonderful reports from our team.  I will let you know of any developments over the next few days and weeks.  I was so encouraged by you and our team.  Thanks for all of your kind words and I look forward to fleshing out some of your teaching with our team over the next weeks and months.

I can’t wait to see the responses you will be sending back to me.  I have included my evaluation.  The way you customized the weekend for us was brilliant.  We really enjoyed following your worship leadership.  It was a real treat for me to follow along with the team.  Thanks for making everything great and I will spread the word.

 God bless,

Worship Participation

Todd often will work together with a choir or worship team to  share in worship on the
following Sunday.  A worship team can be very involved if there is a desire and a team
willing and capable to prepare ahead of time.  Whether as a portion of a service, or in a full concert, it is our desire to involve those from a local congregation in the weekend as much as possible.

Cost:

The retreat and conference have a stipend  based on the size of church and number of participants.
This is negotiable depending on the situation.  Lodging/travel to and from Wichita, KS are in addition to this stipend.

Worship participation/concerts are for the most part by love offering.  Sunday evening schedules require
a set minimum.

Contact Todd directly for more details and schedule information.
